Alan Shearer hints at a special Newcastle United St James’ Park announcement

Alan Shearer responded to the re-release of Mark Knopfler’s Going Home (Local Hero) at St James’ Park during the Newcastle United v Wolverhampton Wanderers match.

Alan Shearer, the famous Newcastle United player, recently shared his excitement about talking to Mark Knopfler. They discussed the new version of the song “Going Home (Local Hero)” which will be released exclusively at St James’ Park. It’s a big honor for Alan to be a part of this special event. The song will make its debut before Newcastle United’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon at 3pm.

Shearer went on social media to share a picture of himself sitting next to Knopfler before the game. He wrote: “It was such a privilege to chat with the legend @MarkKnopfler about his amazing career and the upcoming release of the new version of Going Home (Local Hero) on 15th March, with all proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust.”

The Local Hero song got a makeover by Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes. They teamed up with Sting, Sam Fender, and other famous musicians to create a new version. Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Brian May, Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Pete Townshend, and Ronnie Wood also joined in.

This awesome collaboration will help raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America. The song will be played for the first time when Newcastle plays against Wolves in the Premier League. Knopfler and the other musicians will be there to talk about the song. Knopfler said on the club website that he wants to thank everyone for their amazing response.

I didn’t expect it to be like this at all. Guy Fletcher and I realized early on that we needed to make this piece longer to include all the people who joined in.

I was so surprised when Pete Townshend showed up in my studio with a guitar and an amp. And that first power chord he played…wow, it was amazing. We were in that zone, and it was absolutely fantastic. And it just kept getting better. Eric Clapton came in and played brilliantly, one awesome lick after another.

Then Jeff Beck’s contribution came in, and it was absolutely mesmerizing. We’ve been so lucky to have all these amazing musicians involved. The whole thing was just incredible.

Knopfler, a member of Dire Straits, created the song ‘Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero’ which Newcastle United uses as their walkout music at St James’ Park on match days. Dan Burn, a Newcastle defender and former season ticket holder, shared that the song holds a special place in his heart as it reminds him of his experiences as a fan and player. The song will be available for purchase soon, with proceeds going to teenage cancer charities.
